Biodiversity Town Day 2018

A “Biodiversity Day”  to further promote the idea of Monaghan as the nation’s first “Biodiversity Town” based at the allotments in Killygoan and featuring Eanna Ni Lamhna and local ecologist Billy Flynn with members of Monaghan Tidy Towns committee was held to promote the existing biodiversity of the town environs and provide information on how we can all play a part in both preserving and enhancing it.
"Monaghan Tidy Towns has had a strong focus on promoting local biodiversity for a number of years now and we are always looking for ways to promote the concept to the wider public. We learned early on how fortunate we are in Monaghan town to have an urban area so rich in biodiversity with several waterways including rivers, lakes and the canal, all within the town boundary. Interest and awareness is growing in the importance of biodiversity and climate friendly actions and TidyTowns across the country is increasingly a grassroots environmental movement. We hope this event will spread the word further and encourage more people to get involved, even in a small way.
