Bird Surveys
Kingfisher photographed by Joe Shannon in Monaghan Town
Monaghan Tidy Towns conducted a survey on birds in the town environs over the four seasons from autumn 2011 to summer 2012.
We would like to thank Stephen Mc Avoy who worked on t for us.
We followed up this survey with information nights and some education resources for schools.
Nesting boxes have been installed in appropriate locations around the town and new bird tables are being made by the Men's Shed for some of our housing estates.
2015 - new updated survey from Joe Shannon of Birdwatch Ireland.

BirdWatch Ireland in Monaghan
BirdWatch Ireland is the largest independent conservation organisation in Ireland. Its objective is the protection of wild birds and their habitats.
To fulfil these objectives, the Monaghan Branch undertakes several surveys – the Common Bird Breeding Survey and the Irish Wetland Bird Survey (I-Webs) including Whooper Swan Survey in Co.Monaghan this January.
We hold outings both locally and to many bird rich areas in Ireland. Our most popular trip is to Dundalk Bay where ‘wheeling’ flocks of waders, such as Golden Plover and Knot are a sight to behold.
Locally, our annual Dawn Chorus event is undertaken in many forests in County Monaghan and proves very popular, whereby participants have the opportunity to experience the wondrous birdsong of Song Thrush, Blackbird, Wren and many more.
So, why not contact WWW.Birdwatchireland.ie and search the Branch Events page. These outings are free and open to all.
