On the south-east of Monaghan town, the here runs between two drumlins on which there is the remains of old woodland. This is the Glen and there are some really substantial and attractive trees. These include some very large mature sessile oaks - excellent habitat for literally hundreds of species. Mature ash, sycamore and Scots pine are also found here which makes this ideal for woodland birds such as blue-tit, great tit and the very noisy rooks- one of our largest crows. Little pieces of woodland like this are very important in linking up other habitats for our wild species to move around.
