St. Davnet's

Picture
This is by far the biggest of Monaghan Town’s green spaces and is very important for wildlife, holding as it does several types of habitat. Here there are extensive areas of grassland which are fringed by hedgerows, treelines and a part of the old Ulster Canal. These areas are important for birdlife but also for mammals like the fox which is often found close to towns. There is a Slí na Sláinte through the grounds of the hospital along well kept paths, making Saint Davnet’s a very pleasant place to walk and enjoy green spaces. Look out for the weeping ash and mature chestnut trees as well as over a dozen more species of trees that are found here.
