Ladybird Friendly Estates, Bumblebee Friendly Lawns

We've been busy adding to our biodiversity actions through the addition of ladybird towers and ladybird friendly planting. 
A bumblebee friendly lawn has been created in Woodlands - its easy - just dont mow!! 
Let nature take its course and you will have lovely clover in white and mauve as well as lots of little visitors - Saied counted 15 bumblebees buzzing around the other day!

Pollinator Award

Delighted with our regional and National Pollinator Award for 2016. Many thanks to all who helped us and to Billy Flynn for his expert guidance as always.
​Our Trees for Bees project did the trick.
​The Dispersed Urban Orchard will continue to grow.
​We have just planted apple, damson and plum trees along the new and as yet unused pathway parallel to the bypass. More to go in along the Greenway as well.

We are busy getting ready for Notice Nature 2015 and our primary aim is to brand Monaghan as a "BIODIVERSITY TOWN"
That means promoting and educating people about biodiversity here in Monaghan and continuing to develop the right infrastructure for that while at the same time protecting the fantastic range of biodiversity within the towns environs. 
First up - an update on the bird survey by Joe from Birdwatch Ireland. We are also updating our Biodiversity Plan, organising a walk on the Greenway in April with Billy Flynn, ecologist and starting work on our orchards.

Progress on many fronts

Progress being made on many fronts! We have just received our completed seasonal bird survey which makes for very interesting reading. Thanks to Stephen for his work on that. 

Denis has completed the tree survey and a planting plan for the town as well. 

Our biodiversity trail will soon be in place - we are all looking forward to that and our "chain of insect hotels is growing with six more ready to be installed in different locations around the town.

This site is being developed to support and supplement Monaghan Tidy Towns Committees draft Biodiversity Plan. The plan itself is based on a habitat survey of the town conducted last year (2010). We hope that through this site we can keep the public informed about whats going on with our plan and the progress we make. 
The habitat survey showed that there is lots of biodiversity in and around the town. Now it is up to us to interpret and protect that biodiversity for the future.
